Abstract

This study determined the level of food security in Mexican households in the COVID-19 pandemic according to the characteristics of the members. To this end, the harmonized version of the Latin American and Caribbean Food Security Scale was applied between May and August 2020. It was detected that 16.0% of households had food security (FS), FS was higher in households with persons aged 26 to 64 years (16.2%) and 65 years and older (15.2%). The prevalence of severe food insecurity was higher (26.3%) in households where three or more persons under 15 years of age lived and in households where the number of economic contributors decreased. These results provide useful information on the HS situation prevailing during COVID-19. They suggest that the most vulnerable households in post-pandemic times will be those in which there are more minors and in which the number of economically active persons decreases.
