The collaborative classroom: a strategy to improve learning in the sixth year of primary school

This study analyzes the implementation of the collaborative classroom as a pedagogical strategy to improve learning in sixth-grade elementary school students. Using a qualitative, descriptive approach, the research was conducted with a purposive sample of twenty-two students, employing participant observation, anecdotal records, and checklists to capture the dynamics of group interaction. The results show that structuring heterogeneous groups and assigning specific roles fosters high participation, motivation, and meaningful learning. A notable strengthening of individual responsibility and autonomy was observed, essential competencies for a successful transition to secondary education. Personal commitment and positive interdependence are pillars for building an equitable and democratic learning environment. The study concludes that the collaborative classroom not only optimizes the joint construction of knowledge but also equips students with the metacognitive and socio-affective tools necessary to face the academic challenges of higher educational levels. The systematic incorporation of these active learning methodologies into the national curriculum is recommended to guarantee a comprehensive, inclusive, and high-quality primary education, ensuring a solid educational path toward secondary school.
