The university system recognizes teaching, research, and social engagement as core functions to ensure high-quality higher education. However, in developing countries, research often receives lower priority than teaching, despite being promoted across different levels of academic training. This study proposes a systematic method for transforming the results of formative research and undergraduate thesis projects into publishable scientific output, overcoming their limited presence in institutional repositories. The proposal is grounded in the experience of faculty members from undergraduate programs at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, Esmeraldas Campus, who have successfully published these results in indexed scientific journals. Additionally, the study analyzes key variables influencing the publication of formative research, revealing relationships between scientific production and factors such as time allocated to research, academic training level, teaching experience, research motivation, and prior experience in academic publishing. The findings indicate that publishing formative research is feasible when faculty members demonstrate both motivation and prior experience in scientific dissemination, whereas academic degree level or years of teaching experience, although relevant, do not independently guarantee successful publication.
