Responsible Research Assessment Policy and Endorsement of DORA

The Revista Metropolitana de Ciencias Aplicadas (REMCA) expresses its support for the principles promoted by the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and is committed to fostering research assessment practices based on responsible, transparent, inclusive criteria that are appropriate to the characteristics of each contribution.

REMCA considers that the assessment of scholarly work should focus primarily on its own merits. In this regard, aspects such as the relevance of the research problem addressed, methodological consistency, originality, the quality of the results, and the contribution to the advancement of knowledge are essential elements in determining the relevance of manuscripts. Bibliometric indicators associated with journals should not be used in isolation to determine the quality of an article or to assess the performance of authors, research teams, or institutions.

In its editorial processes, REMCA seeks to ensure that decisions concerning manuscripts are based on the academic assessment of their content and on previously established editorial criteria. Peer review is a fundamental component of this process and is intended to contribute both to the quality of published works and to the robustness of scholarly communication. Quantitative indicators may provide complementary information, but they should be used with caution and always alongside specialized qualitative assessment.

The journal also recognizes that scholarly activity generates diverse contributions that cannot be adequately represented by a single indicator. For this reason, it promotes a broad approach to research assessment that recognizes different forms of scholarly output and contributions to knowledge, as well as the disciplinary, institutional, and contextual particularities in which research is conducted.

As part of this commitment, REMCA will continue to review and improve its editorial policies in order to keep them aligned with the principles of DORA and with international practices aimed at promoting responsible research assessment. Transparency in editorial procedures, the assessment of each contribution on its own merits, and the responsible use of metrics are guiding principles of this policy. The implementation and periodic review of these commitments are the responsibility of the editorial team of the Revista Metropolitana de Ciencias Aplicadas (REMCA).
