Systemic lupus erythematosus as a preexisting disease or secondary to an inflammatory syndrome in a patient with HIV. Case report

Systemic lupus erythematosus, HIV, concomitants, immune reconstitution, autoimmune diseaseAbstract
The coexistence of autoimmune diseases in patients with HIV is rare. Various signs, symptoms, and laboratory parameters, especially antibodies, can be observed between both pathologies, which may go unnoticed in an autoimmune disease or, conversely, lead to an erroneous diagnosis. A 32-year-old male patient with a history of acquired immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hypogonadism before the HIV diagnosis presented with polyarthritis lasting more than two months. A possible immune reconstitution syndrome (IRIS) associated with an autoimmune disease (AD) or preexisting AD is suspected. This sign and symptom can be present in more than one AD, in this case, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), and timely diagnosis is necessary to initiate treatment and prevent complications or mortality.
