This study evaluated the efficiency of the excise tax (ICE) on products harmful to health in Ecuador. Using a qualitative-quantitative approach, historical-logical, statistical and systemic methods were used, as well as surveys of 303 professionals from different areas. The results revealed a high level of knowledge of the ICE (90.76%) and variability in the perception of its effectiveness according to gender and age. Although challenges were identified in its implementation, such as industry resistance and public misinformation, the ICE proved to reduce the consumption of products that are harmful to health. It proposes improvements, such as awareness campaigns and tariff adjustments. The ICE in Ecuador has been effective in promoting healthier consumption habits, but has faced obstacles in its application and efficiency. The need for additional measures to optimize its effectiveness and ensure its equity was highlighted.
